A recent Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs poll revealed that roughly 85% of American adults believe that the country is moving in the wrong direction. According to the study, 78% of Democrats and 92% of Republicans agree that the country is moving the wrong way. Across the board, people have a pessimistic outlook on the economy’s future due to inflation and rising gas prices. In general, people believe that the economy is doing poorly (81%). Approximately 67% of Democrats and 90% of Republicans share this opinion.
These percentages are a sharp increase from the poll’s findings just one year ago when only 37% of Democrats and 68% of Republicans expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the economy. Overall, 60% of respondents indicated they disapproved of Biden’s presidency, while 39% said they approved. Around 73% of independents reportedly disapprove of Biden’s performance.
A post from AP-NORC noted that “The nationwide poll was conducted June 23-27, 2022 using the AmeriSpeak® Panel, the probability-based panel of NORC at the University of Chicago. Online and telephone interviews using landlines and cell phones were conducted with 1,053 adults. The margin of sampling error is +/- 4.0 percentage points.”
