According to the New York Lottery, human error is to blame for the incorrect Mega Millions winning numbers being presented for Tuesday’s game. Prize payouts for all Mega Millions tickets in New York have been temporarily halted, after the lottery host, John Crow, read the gold Mega Ball as “6” instead of “9” during the drawing.  Lottery officials told ABC 7 New York that the winning numbers were later published and that “The New York Lottery is actively working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.” 

For Tuesday’s drawing, the correct winning numbers are 15-19-20-61-70, with a Mega Ball of 9. The prize was expected to be worth $99 million as of Wednesday. Those who bought tickets for the May 10 drawing were told to hold on to them until the state lottery fixes the issue. There were no grand prize winners for the 6 or 9 Mega Ball. However, in New York, there were two $10,000 awards with a 6 and over $130,000 in lesser jackpots for 30,000 other players. It’s unclear if the state would cover the bill.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, as well as the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. According to their website, the chances of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350.
