Man From China Who Restrained And Mistreated Woman Receives 9-Year Prison Sentence

In China, a guy who was caught on camera torturing and forcibly holding a lady while she was chained up has reportedly been given a nine-year prison sentence. Dong Zhimin, who fathered eight children with the victim, also known as “Xiaohuamei” or “Little Plum Blossom,” chained and bound her with rope and linen. Her narrative was suppressed by both human and digital censors, but it nonetheless surfaced on Chinese social media and received a lot of attention, especially during the Winter Olympics that were hosted in Beijing last year.

The Xuzhou city court that imposed the penalty revealed in a statement that Dong and his deceased father had paid 5,000 yuan ($727) for Little Plum Blossom in the late 1990s. According to the statement, Dong mistreated Little Plum Blossom in recent years by depriving her of food, water, and electricity. She also developed schizophrenia as a result of his mistreatment, the statement claims. Dong wasn’t the only one who received a sentence; five other people who were involved in the trafficking of Little Plum Blossom in the past were also penalized and given prison sentences of eight to thirteen years.

Little Plum Blossom was first abducted and trafficked from southwestern Yunnan province to Jiangsu province on China’s eastern coast in early 1998. She was then reportedly sold to a farmer. She moved in with the farmer but eventually went missing and was later found by a couple in Henan province in June 1998. The couple sold her to two others for 3,000 yuan ($436), who then sold her for 5,000 yuan ($727) to the Dongs in Feng county, Jiangsu.

Little Plum Blossom’s doctor, according to Xinhua news agency, confirmed that she is being cared for in a hospital. Her eldest son stated that his mother, who at one time could not recognize him, has now regained her memory capacity and can identify him by name. On Weibo, users expressed their outrage at Dong’s nine-year sentence for what they deemed too lenient a punishment for his actions.
