Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani was reportedly assaulted by a store employee at a ShopRite on Staten Island. Witnesses and law enforcement said the 78-year-old was left shaken while campaigning for his son. Eyewitness Rita Rugova-Johnson told the New York Post, “I was stunned,” explaining that she “was shoulder-to-shoulder with Rudy inside ShopRite. We’re talking, and all of a sudden an employee came out of nowhere and open-handedly slapped him in the back and said, ‘Hey, what’s up scumbag?’”
The attacker was on duty at the time and arrested by authorities. Although sources said that police took the attacker into custody at the store, the suspect’s identity and charges were not immediately known. Guiliani’s girlfriend, Dr. Maria Ryan said that at the time of the attack, Giuliani—who is also a lawyer for former President Donald Trump—was campaigning for his son Andrew, by posing for pictures. Andrew Guiliani is currently running for the Republican nomination to be New York’s governor. Ryan stated that “Rudy was assaulted, he’s a 78-year-old man with a bad back and bad knees.”
