The incident occurred in the darkness, and Hidalgo was afraid to approach the water. The victim was immediately evacuated by helicopter to Fort Myers’ Gulf Coast Hospital. There, his arm was amputated, says Todd Dunn, a Charlotte County Fire and EMS spokesperson. Wildlife officials removed a 10.5-foot-long alligator from the property, and it will be considered a nuisance alligator.
