Authorities in Old Bridge, New Jersey have solved the mystery of how hundreds of pounds of pasta ended up dumped near a stream. The public works department quickly cleaned up about 500 pounds of various types of pasta shortly after officials were made aware of it when photos of the location were posted on social media. Old Bridge Mayor Owen Henry said on Friday that the massive amounts of pasta, including macaroni and spaghetti, had drawn national attention. He noted that the pasta was initially raw but recent heavy rains had caused it to soften and appear cooked.
It is yet unclear who is responsible for the dumping or the motive behind it. However, the authorities have confirmed that the event did not have any detrimental or adverse effects on the environment or cause any health concerns. Henry added that the matter was now resolved and the pasta was no longer an issue.
He noted that the pasta should not have been left in the woods, much less near the stream bed where it was found. He expressed his hope that the police would not waste additional time on the matter but suggested that, had the pasta still been usable, it could have been donated to the food bank, which is always in need of donations.
