A gang member convicted of murder in Los Angeles thanked District Attorney George Gascón for his controversial criminal justice reforms, which lowered his charges. He pledged to get the beleaguered DA’s name tattooed on his forehead. In a jailhouse phone call recorded by Fox News, Luis Angel Hernandez, who pleaded guilty to murder and personal use of a handgun in the 2018 assassination of a marijuana delivery person, raved over the Los Angeles County District Attorney.
During the call, Hernandez, a member of the OTF gang says, “I’m going to get that n****’s name on my face. That’s a champ right there. F***in’ Gascón. He’s making historic changes for all of us, fool. I’m just grateful, fool. Like, I got good news off that s**t.” He applauded Gascón’s decision to end sentencing enhancements in nearly all cases, saying “This s**t looking real good. Now we got a new DA in LA… so they’re going to drop a gang of, um, like my gun enhancement, my gang enhancement.”
Hernandez was facing a life sentence without the possibility of parole and numerous enhancements, including one for his gang connection and another for murder during an armed robbery. According to law enforcement sources, the enhancements were eliminated as a result of Gascón’s rollbacks, who assumed office in December 2020. The revised penalty for Hernandez was not immediately available. However, according to Fox, he will be eligible for youthful offender parole, which could shorten his sentence to 25 years.
