The Delaware computer repairman who tipped off authorities about Hunter Biden’s laptop has sued Rep. Adam Schiff and multiple news sites. According to the New York Post, computer repair shop owner John Paul Mac Isaac filed a lawsuit against Schiff, CNN, the Daily Beast, and Politico, alleging financial and reputational harm after they wrongly accused him of trafficking Russian misinformation.
Mac Isaac stated, “After fighting to reveal the truth, all I want now is for the rest of the country to know that there was a collective and orchestrated effort by social and mainstream media to block a real story with real consequences for the nation.” His lawyer Brian Della Rocca said he is seeking “at least $1 million in compensatory damages [and] punitive damages, which will be the much bigger number and will be determined at trial.”
The complaint was filed in Montgomery County, Maryland and alleges that Democratic California Representative Adam Schiff defamed Mac Isaac during an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. Schiff claimed, “Well, we know that this whole smear on Joe Biden comes from the Kremlin. That’s been clear for well over a year now that they’ve been pushing this false narrative about the vice president and his son.”
CNN is named in the suit for internationally broadcasting a “false and defamatory story” about Russia’s involvement with the laptop. The suit says, “CNN’s broadcast of the false statement accuses [Mac Isaac] of committing an infamous crime, i.e., treason by working with the Russians to commit a crime against the United States of America by attempting to undermine American democracy and the 2020 Presidential election.” Mac Isaac also named the Daily Beast and Politico in the suit for deliberately misrepresenting the story and his conduct in two articles.
Mac Isaac explained that “The fight to get to the bottom of who told everyone this was Russian disinformation is far more important for the nation than me clearing my name.” After the story broke in October 2020, Mac Isaac had to close his business due to vandalism and death threats.
