The sealed indictment is connected to Trump’s alleged involvement in a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign. Trump’s lawyer, Alina Habba, insists the former president will be vindicated, denouncing the indictment as “political persecution and election interference.” Trump, who has managed to avoid legal consequences in numerous disputes, has vowed to continue his 2024 presidential campaign despite the charges. The investigation, which began under Manhattan DA Cy Vance, focuses on a $130,000 payment made by Trump’s ex-personal attorney, Michael Cohen, to Daniels in October 2016.
