New York DOE Bans ChatGPT to Stop Students From Misuse of AI Technology

A recent ban on ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence tool created by OpenAI, on all school devices and networks was imposed by the New York Department of Education (DOE). Since the instrument may be used to encourage cheating and the transmission of false information, the prohibition was put into place.

ChatGPT is a potent AI tool that can produce responses that resemble those of humans in the form of essays, poems, and jokes. Students have utilized it to do homework assignments, which prompted the DOE to take action to stop them from abusing the technology.

The DOE will nevertheless permit individual schools to access ChatGPT if they want to utilize it for research reasons in spite of the ban. Students will be able to study the underlying technology that powers AI as a result, helping them better grasp the technology and its ramifications.

Despite the DOE’s efforts to secure children, detractors have voiced worry that ChatGPT may create misleading or erroneous information in the absence of adequate protections. This might expose students to erroneous information and increase the spread of disinformation.

In a bid to entice customers away from Google, Microsoft plans to integrate ChatGPT capability into its Bing search engine in addition to the DOE’s restriction. This might increase ChatGPT’s use and accessibility, which would raise the risk of abuse even higher.
