Houston police ask for public’s help finding shooters in Migos rapper Takeoff’s slaying

Rapper Takeoff, 28, was shot and killed outside a bowling alley early on Tuesday; two others were injured in the incident. Houston police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the shooter. According to the Associated Press, Takeoff, real name Kirsnick Khari Ball, who made up one-third of the rap group Migos with Quavo and Offset, was shot Around 2:30 in the morning. Police said approximately 40 individuals leaving a private party at the downtown bowling alley got into a fight.

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said Takeoff was “well respected, and there is “no reason to believe he was involved in anything criminal at the time.” The chief claimed that as the shooting started, most people ran away, and he pleaded for anyone with information or video to come forward so that authorities could find the gunmen. Finner also noted that at least two people fired shots and the two others who were hit had non-life-threatening wounds. They were driven in private vehicles to hospitals.

Mayor Sylvester Turner stated, “Let me just ask … that anyone who has information on the shooter or shooters to provide that information to HPD and let us solve this situation. Let us bring justice to this family.”

Takeoff’s murder comes at a time when crime has become a significant political issue, with many Republicans running on law-and-order platforms and Democrats attempting to compromise between public safety appeals and requests for criminal-justice reform.
