The transgender surgery market is anticipated to be worth $5 billion by the decade’s end. According to a new analysis from Grand View Research, the industry was valued at $1.9 billion last year and is expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate of more than 11% through 2030. The report indicated, “The rising incidences of gender dysphoria and the increasing number of people opting for gender confirmation surgeries are expected to boost the growth during the forecast period.”
The analysis also explained that the demand for so-called “gender-affirming operations” is anticipated to “accelerate in the coming years” as hospitals restart non-emergency services. Additionally, many patients are having consultations through telehealth, a development “anticipated to have a beneficial impact on the growth of the market in the upcoming years.” While some sex reassignment surgery procedures, such as hysterectomies and ovariectomies, may be covered by insurance companies like Aetna and Unicare, Grand View Research said that “government support is also driving the market.”
The analysis comes amid increased criticism of institutions that give “transgender” medical procedures to children and teens. Recently, Daily Wire anchor Matt Walsh collected footage showing a Vanderbilt physician highlighting the revenue such operations may generate. Approximately $40,000 is made from “chest reconstruction” operations and $100,000 from “female-to-male bottom procedures.” A second Vanderbilt physician referred to religious concerns as “problematic” and said that those who refuse to conduct such operations should be subject to “consequences.”
Some hospitals are beginning to expand their services beyond surgeries involving males and females. According to another Daily Wire investigation, at least 47 pediatric gender clinics nationwide have started to provide services to kids labeled as “gender creative,” “gender diverse,” or “gender nonconforming,” sometimes including children as young as two or three. However, studies have shown that up to 90% of young people who identify as transgender but are not supported in making a social or medical transition will no longer identify as transgender as adults.
