Former Beaverton, Oregon mayor charged with possession of child pornography

The former mayor of Beaverton, Oregon a suburb of Portland has been arrested for possession of child pornography. Authorities in Oregon recently announced, Denny Doyle, Democratic mayor of Beaverton from 2008 to 2020, has been charged with one count of child pornography by the Justice Department’s Oregon District.

According to the Oregonian, the 73-year-old possessed the images between 2014 and 2015. The pictures were discovered on a flash drive that was given to authorities as part of an inquiry into the former mayor.

Beginning around 1993, Doyle was involved with youth soccer programs. He was also a city councilman for ten years before becoming mayor of Beaverton in 2008. In 2002, he was taken into custody for drunk driving while serving on the City Council.

The case is being prosecuted by U.S. Attorney Scott Erik Asphaug in cooperation with FBI Portland’s Child Exploitation Task Force, who spearheaded the investigation. If convicted, Doyle faces a maximum of 20 years in prison, a lifetime of supervision after release, and a $250,000 fine.
